A new paper in Plant Ecology
Pavel Fibich and Šuspa have shown that there is a simple remedy for the bias causing falsely positive detection of conspecific negative density dependence due to regression dilution (underestimation of the regression slope due to error prone predictor). Using Type II regression (Major Axis) is a simple remedy here. However, it does not solve other problems, and repeated observations and experimental manipulations are better options, however, only a fraction of available data enables application of this approach.
