Modern plant systematics studies the evolutionary history of plants and seeks the causes of their current distribution. Our group at the Department of Botany of the Faculty of Science, JCU studies morphological and genetic variation of plants, their reproduction, hybridization, polyploidization, origin of species and their distribution. We work both in the field throughout Europe (e.g. Šumava Mts, the Alps, Scandinavia, the Balkans) and in the molecular lab. Our favourite objects are ferns, aquatic plants, various genera of hemiparasitic Orobanchaceae, composits (Asteraceae) and grasses. However, we are not averse to any group in which meaningful questions arise. Anyone interested in plants is welcome.
